Welcome Message from Erica
Thank you for visiting! For those of you I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet, I’m Erica Flores Baltodano. I’m a mother, law school dean, San Luis Obispo County Civil Service Commissioner, and public education champion. I am committed to excellence, and I want the best for all our kids.
Youth well-being means educating the whole child.
In addition to raising two children who have attended San Luis Coastal Unified School District schools for the last 12 years and counting, I spent the first decade of my career representing and advocating for families and children attending the largest public school district in California. Locally, I’ve served as an advisor to the San Luis Coastal Unified School District Superintendent since 2017, I am a founding board member of the San Luis Coastal Education Foundation, and I am a frequent volunteer and guest speaker in K-12 classrooms. For years I’ve merged my passion for education and good governance by facilitating civic-education focused field trips for 3rd and 5th graders, and I recently became certified as a Youth Mental Health First Aider because I care deeply about the well-being of young people.
I have the experience and knowledge it takes to serve on a governing board with humility, civility, collaboration, and focus.
I have also experienced the joy of teaching at the K-12, college, and law school level my entire career. Between my background in employment law and human resources, academic leadership as Campus Dean at San Luis Obispo College of Law, and public service as Vice President of our County’s Civil Service Commission responsible for assuring fair and impartial treatment of county employees and applicants, I have the experience and knowledge it takes to serve on a governing board with humility, civility, collaboration, and focus.
I want all our children to thrive, I support our dedicated teachers, and I believe in the value of public education.
I’m running for San Luis Coastal Unified School District Board School Board, Trustee Area 6, because I want all our children to thrive, I support our dedicated teachers, and I believe in the value of public education to help cultivate the next generation of leaders. It is the responsibility of public schools to educate the whole child—academically, physically, socially, and emotionally.
All our children must be supported, encouraged, and provided with the resources they need to reach their full potential.
For all the strides our District has made, I know we can do better. And I won’t be deterred by those who fail to understand that the role of a public-school board Trustee is to ensure that all our children are supported, encouraged, and provided with the resources and tools they need to reach their full potential.
My record speaks for itself: I will put in the work, listen, lead, expect accountability, and be a role model for our youth.
I will put in the work, ask important questions, have difficult conversations, listen, lead, act, and be guided by an unwavering commitment to civility, good governance, equity, and the success of all students. But I cannot do it alone. I need your help. Thank you for your support!
